JAKARTA - A four-year-old boy died after being swept away while playing in a ditch behind his house in Tanjung Sengkuang Village, Batu Ampar, Batam City, Saturday, March 25.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Batu Ampar Police, Iptu M. Fachri Rizky, said the victim, known to have the initials RR, was found about 1.5 miles from the scene.

"It happened in the afternoon, Saturday (March 25), at around 14.30 WIB. At that time, conditions were raining heavily at the location where the victim lived," Fachri said, quoting Antara, Sunday, March 26.

The incident was first discovered by the victim's uncle who was at his house at that time. The victim's parents were busy cleaning up puddles that entered the area of the house due to heavy rains.

"The victim's parents were cleaning the house from the puddle in the back, suddenly his uncle shouted that his nephew was swept away by the current of the ditch behind the house," he explained.

Hearing this information, they then immediately sought help by asking for help from residents. The residents then contacted the police and Basarnas.

"The search was carried out by walking along the ditch together. The victim was found at around 22.00 WIB with a dead condition," said Fachri.

The victim RR was buried by the family at the nearest cemetery (TPU) on Sunday.
