Patimban, Port Of A Million Hopes

JAKARTA - December 2020, Patimban Port will start operating. A large port that will later become a "competitor" to Tanjung Priok.

The presence of Patimban Port makes a lot of hopes. Apart from being the center of import-export activities, Patimban will also reflect a new, futuristic city.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that this port will become the center of export and import traffic for automotive, especially cars, in West Java and Central Java. According to him, export-import activities will be more "concise" with the presence of the port which is located in Subang Regency, West Java.

"In December, we will use the car terminal for the first time, which can be used to export and import cars and also distribute cars throughout Indonesia. It can be used for 3 hectares of containers or 250 thousand TEUs per year. Then for vehicles covering an area of 25 hectares with 280 cars. thousand CBUs, "he said, in a webinar on Monday, November 16.

Budi said, if Patimban Port was operational, export-import activities from the industrial area in Karawang would no longer need to be carried out from Tanjung Priok. That way, shipping activities will become more effective and the economy around the port area is projected to grow faster.

"This clearly provides a new movement for the world of logistics, which previously had to go to Priok and took a long time, can have alternatives in Patimban," he said.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said that with the permission and direction of the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, the West Java government wanted to build a future futuristic city in Patimban. This area will be inhabited by around 1 million people.

"If there are 1 million inhabitants, there must be a blue collar, a white collar, there are people living and working there and so on, including areas. This is the vision of the Maritime City of Patimban," he said.

Furthermore, Ridwan said that the first stage of the Patimban development would be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) next month. If the proposal to make a futuristic city is accepted, he does not want Patimban to be in the same boat as Tanjung Priok.

According to Ridwan, the structure of the Patimban area will be much better than the port in North Jakarta, which is less organized spatially, resulting in less than optimal economic turnover.

"Hopefully, if we approve this, it will not happen like Tanjung Priok. The port is functioning but the spatial plan to Tanjung Priok is not well organized so it is not optimal," he said.

Ridwan also said he wanted to make Patimban a world-class pilot. Where, he said, industrial estates are not only filled with factories but also liveable like other cities.

"Like cities in general. There is a square, there is (like) Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, there is golf, recreation and so on, but the heart of its activities is the economy at the port," he said.

This plan is not just an ideal. Ridwan said that on Wednesday, November 18, he would conduct groundbreaking for Subang Smartpolitan covering an area of 30 thousand ha, which is one of 13 new cities in the Cirebon, Patimban and Majalengka (Rebana) areas.

"This is a historic event, how the Rebana area with Patimban as the prima donna of its economic locomotive is not a fairy tale, it is not far off, but it is close. This will groundbreaking 30 ha on Wednesday to initiate the spirit of economic recovery, the spirit of the center of Java's economic corridor," he said. .

Patimban Part of the Metropolitan Rebana

Ridwan said that Rebana Metropolitan was projected to be a motor of future economic growth in West Java. Among other things, through the development of industrial estates that are integrated, innovative, collaborative, highly competitive, and sustainable.

"With Rebana, we will see 13 futuristic cities. 'Rebana is the future of West Java'. The Rebana area is also one of the seven new economies in West Java. West Java's new economy is expected to be a solution to the dynamics and development problems in a province of 35 thousand areas. square kilometers with a population of nearly 50 million, "he said at the West Java Investment Summit, Monday, November 16.

The former Mayor of Bandung said that Rebana Metropolitan was expected to provide a socially just economy for all residents in the area. Therefore, the local community must be involved in the development process.

"I don't want Rebana to develop for 10 to 30 years, but the local people are only spectators, the stones come from other islands, the food supply is not local, the residents are just security guards, the residents are just office boys, I don't want to. present, "he said.

For your information, the development of Patimban Port is divided into three phases. In the second phase, construction will begin in 2021. With this continued development, the port container capacity is targeted to reach 3.75 million TEUs by 2023.

In 2021, the Ministry of Transportation will build a container with an area of 66 hectares in Patimban Port, 3.75 million TEU containers, and a vehicle terminal with a capacity of 600 thousand CBU.

Then, in the next phase or the third phase, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya targets Patimban Port to accommodate containers of up to 7.5 million-14 million TEUs. The completion of the Patimban development is targeted to be completed in 2027.
