Collaborating With VKTR, Pertamina NRE Develops Electric Public Transportation

JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has hooked up PT VKTR Mobility Technology Tbk (VKTR) to pioneer sustainable mobility solutions for public transportation in Indonesia.

This partnership, which was inaugurated through Letter of Interest to the US International Development Finance Corporation (US DFC), is a strategic effort to achieve Net Zero Indonesia's emission target by 2060.

VKTR CEO, Gilarsi W. Setijono said, with a bus population of more than 260,000, Indonesia presents a great opportunity for the penetration of electric vehicle buses. This partnership introduces an innovative e-MaaS (electric Mobility as a Service) model, offers flexible financing for the operation and maintenance of electric vehicle buses, thereby reducing dependence on government funding.

"Combination of our expertise in electrification of public transportation and renewable energy has uniquely placed us in charge of transformative solutions in Indonesia. We are committed to facilitating comprehensive electric vehicle infrastructure, the transition from the CAPEX model to OPEX, and making a big contribution to the Indonesian economy," he said in a statement to the media, Wednesday, November 15.

Meanwhile, Pertamina NRE CEO, Dannif Danusaputro, CEO of Pertamina NRE, said Pertamina NRE was dedicated to achieving Net Zero Emission in 2060 or even sooner.

"We focus on decarbonizing challenging sectors through low-carbon solutions, developing renewable energy, and building future businesses that include businesses of electric vehicles, batteries, environmentally friendly hydrogen and carbon. We believe that this collaboration will accelerate our efforts," continued Dannif.

This partnership aims to assist entities such as TransJakarta and the New Capital City of IKN in developing the infrastructure needed for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. The e-MaaS model is not limited to vehicles; this project includes important infrastructure such as charging stations and renewable energy sources, which offers holistic and cost-effective solutions for major cities in Indonesia.

Collaborative efforts through e-MaaS are ready to be implemented in various sectors, encourage environmentally friendly transportation projects and electricity transformation. Its scalability also opens the way for expansion to other regions, thus encouraging a strong and sustainable environmentally friendly transportation ecosystem.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero) added that this collaboration created one of Pertamina's initiatives in Sustainability, namely building an EV ecosystem in Indonesia.

"We hope that this partnership will be able to encourage the growth of the energy mix in new and renewable energy in the automotive industry, especially public transportation. So that emissions from vehicles can be reduced," he concluded.
