JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) explained a number of renewable energy development programs as a long-term national electricity strategy listed in the National Electricity General Plan (RUKN).

The Director General of Electricity, Jisman P Hutajulu, in his presentation stated that the need for electricity in 2024-2060 will grow on average in the range of 3.6 to 4.2 percent per year.

"The production of electricity needs will determine the amount of additional needs for power plants and infrastructure for the provision of other electricity and the amount of CO2 emissions," said Jisman in his presentation at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Enlit at ICE BSD, Tuesday, November 14.

For this reason, he said, it is necessary for the EBT development program, including the development of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) which will be developed massively in 2030 and followed by the Bayu Power Plant (PLTB) in 2030.

"PLTS is mostly developed because of its relatively lower capital costs with the use of a hydropower dam or reservoir, with the concept of floating PLTS as a solution in the midst of land constraints on land," Jisman continued.

Meanwhile, Indonesia currently has 145 MW PLTS floating in Cirata and is the largest floating PLTS in Southeast Asia. In the future, the development of floating PLTS in Indonesia by utilizing existing hydropower dams or reservoirs has the potential of around 14 GW.

Then the development of Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP) which in stages will be increased to 22 GW through the development of more modern PLTP technology and the development of other non-conventional geothermal systems. Furthermore, continued Jisman, the utilization of the Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) will be optimized, to be channeled to other islands where the centers of load are located.

"In addition, the hydropower plant will also help maintain a balance for the intermittent Renewable Energy generation," added Jisman.

Meanwhile, the development of nuclear power (PLTN) will become commercial in 2039 to increase the reliability of the power system.

"The capacity will be increased to 31 GW by 2060," explained Jisman.

Meanwhile, hydro pump storage will begin to be developed in 2025, the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be massively developed in 2034.

"Hydrogen by utilizing the EBT Plant is planned to start production in 2031 to meet transportation and industrial needs," concluded Jisman.
