Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Affirms Ordinary Households Don't Need Permits For Groundwater Use

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Geological Agency emphasized that ordinary households do not need to apply for a permit to use ground water.

Acting Head (Plt) Head of the Geological Agency Muhammad Wafid explained that the application for a permit to use ground water if the use exceeds 100 cubic meters per month and per head of the family.

Meanwhile, the use of water for a home pool is a secondary requirement.

"I think if the daily use or month by ordinary families is only 30 cubic meters or the equivalent of 30,000 liters, so the general public does not need to worry," Wafid said at the Groundwater Control Press Conference at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Monday, November 13.

Wafid explained, 100 cubic meters or 100,000 liters are equivalent to 200 times filling household water reservoirs with a volume of 500 liters.

This is certainly different from the use of households in housing for rich people who have swimming pools with the need to exceed 100 cubic meters of water per month.

"If we try to compare around if there is a swimming pool for rich people, how many times will he replace the water in the pool? How much is the need? Maybe more than 100 cubic meters," Wafid continued.

Meanwhile, for groundwater (commercial) entrepreneurship, continued Wafid, Business Entities still follow the provisions regulated by the Government through the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number: 259 of 2022 concerning the Standards for Implementing Groundwater Entrepreneurship Permits.

The government, continued Wafid, emphasized that it does not limit groundwater extraction, but regulates that there will be no disruption of groundwater accessability by the community in the future due to explosive groundwater extraction.
