GP Ansor: We Are Proud Of Banser Cadres To Be Re-elected As MS Chairs

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Islamic Economic Community (MES), Erick Thohir has again led Islamic economic institutions for the 2023-2025 period. Abdurahman's trust in coordinating the MES, Secretary General of PP. GP. Ansor is considered because Erick is able to advance the sharia economy in Indonesia.

"Congratulations Mr. Erick Thohir for being re-elected as Chairman of the Sharia Economic Community (MES). We are proud that the Banser cadres who were twice elected as MES Chairs have shown success in leading MES," Abdurrahman said in Jakarta, Sunday, October 1.

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir was re-elected as General Chair of MES at the VI MES National Conference (Munas), Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Jakarta.

"God willing, in this second period, we increasingly believe that under the leadership of Mr. Erick, the Islamic economy in Indonesia will progress and bring benefits to the welfare of the people," continued Abdurrahman.

In his remarks before the election, Erick Thohir said that he was optimistic that the target of Islamic banking to grow by 25 percent could be achieved. To realize this dream, of course, it needs to be supported by increasing the number of Islamic banks in Indonesia.

"Maybe (achieving the target of 25 percent) that's why we first encourage international bank policies if possible to separate Islamic business units (UUS) and their conventional banks. So there are not many wings. If separated, there will be many Islamic banks, so there will be more open competition. This is what we encourage," said Erick.
