JAKARTA - Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), one of the airports managed by PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) or AP I won the 2023 Subroto Energy Efficiency Award (PSBE).

YIA Airport is ranked 1st in the category of energy management in buildings and industries.

"The achievements achieved by Yogyakarta International Airport in this year's PSBE also complement the achievements of PSBE in 2022, where YIA Airport managed to rank 3 categories of energy-efficient buildings in the green building category. Of course this is a form of appreciation for AP I's commitment and efforts in realizing the company's mission to make a positive contribution to the environment," said AP I President Director Faik Fahmi in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Saturday, September 30.

The award, which was held by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on Friday, September 29, is the highest appreciation given to entities that have played a role in advancing the energy sector and mineral resources in Indonesia in the last year, especially in the field of energy efficiency and conservation as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions or gas greenhouses.

YIA Airport, continued Faik, is one of the AP I airports whose infrastructure development concept pays close attention to environmental sustainability aspects. In addition, in airport operational management, AP I also implements energy policies and environmental policies to support environmentally friendly airports or eco-airports.

"We use the momentum of this award as a trigger to continue to be able to increase the company's contribution to environmental conservation and energy conservation," he said.

AP I explained that YIA Airport is an airport with the concept of a greenfield airport built from empty land by adhering to a sustainable and environmentally friendly architectural philosophy and supported by a green open area of 19.84 percent of the total area, or an area of 26,589.3 m2.

In its operational activities, YIA Airport is also supported by the implementation of various utilities that support environmentally friendly concepts such as the use of LED lights, public street lighting with solar cells, the use of sleep mode features on elevators, elevators, and travelers.

Then, the use of a sunergy green building glass that is able to reflect the sunlight well and the use of a chiller with a watercooled centrifugal chiller 800 TR system with a COP value of 6.81 using environmentally friendly regrigerants so as not to damage the ozone layer.

In addition, AI I also said that YIA Airport has implemented traffic-based operations management (MOT) as an effort to save energy by taking into account flight traffic conditions and passengers so that they can control electricity consumption in the passenger terminal zoning area.

As for water conservation, AP I utilizes the use of stormwater management facilities for areas that function to capture, collect, process, and absorb rainwater to be used as alternative water sources to support airport operations.

YIA Airport is also supported by sanitizers with dual flush and auto-faucet features to save water use and the use of water recycling from the operation of the rental treatment plant (STP) which is used to provide water needs for cooling towers and plant watering equipment.

Until 2022, AP I noted that the use of rainwater at YIA Airport reached 55,018 m3/year and efficiency of recycled water and utilization of rainwater amounting to Rp1.1 billion.

For the various efforts implemented by AP I, YIA Airport managed to achieve energy savings until 2022 of 5,584,501 kWh compared to 2020 or equivalent to IDR 7.3 billion with an electricity tariff of IDR 1,324.7/kWh.

In addition to successfully achieving energy savings, the implementation of energy management at YIA Airport also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions or gas greenhouses in 2022 by 4,411 tons of CO2e.

For this award, YIA Airport is then declared entitled to represent Indonesia at the ASEAN Energy Award which will be held in 2024. The ASEAN Energy Award is the highest award given to business entities in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy development in the Southeast Asia region.
