JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) through the Halal Industry Empowerment Center (PPIH) is collaborating with industrial companies in Kazakhstan to be able to invest in Halal Industrial Zones (KIH) in Indonesia.

The Halal Industry Empowerment Center (PPIH) of the Ministry of Industry itself collaborated with the Indonesian Embassy in Astana and BPJPH of the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) to attend the Halal Expo Almaty 2023 which was held in the business and financial center of Kazakhstan, Almaty, on 15-16 September 2023.

"Indonesia wants to be part of Kazakhstan's halal lifestyle. To fill the need for halal products, we invite potential buyers from Kazakhstan to work together, as well as industrial companies in Kazakhstan to invest in Indonesia, especially in the Halal Industrial Zone (KIH) in Tanah Water," said Head of PPIH Mohammad Ari Kurnia Taufik in his written statement, on Thursday, September 21.

The international exhibition was organized by the Muslim Spiritual Administration Institute (Muftyat) of Kazakhstan and attended by more than 100 halal product manufacturing companies from Kazakhstan and a number of foreign countries, including Indonesia.

On that occasion, the Ministry of Industry brought products from 20 halal industrial companies and Indonesian halal industrial area companies (KIH), by offering a wide variety of Indonesian halal products, such as food and beverage products, coffee, chocolate, traditional drinks, herbal supplements, home care products, cosmetics, and modest fashion.

Ari said that a number of Kazakh entrepreneurs and distributors had expressed serious interest in importing Indonesian halal products to Kazakhstan.

"In order to encourage the potential entry of Indonesian halal industrial products into Kazakhstan, we are of the opinion that there is a need for a larger expo that specifically highlights Indonesian halal products, for example through the Indonesia Halal Industry Expo in Kazakhstan," he said.

Kazakhstan is the most advanced economic country in Central Asia with a population of nearly 20 million people and a Muslim majority.

On the other hand, the wheels of the sharia economy and the Indonesian halal industry continue to grow to fill the global halal market. Currently, Indonesia's sharia economic indicators continue to improve, ranking fourth in the world, as recorded by The State Global Islamic Economy Report 2022.

The main drivers of sharia economic growth are influenced, among other things, by the large population of Muslims in the world, increasing awareness of Islamic values in consuming halal products, and the increasing number of national strategies and programs dedicated to the development of halal products and services.

Halal Expo Almaty 2023 itself was opened by the Grand Mufti of Kazakhstan, Sheikh Nauryzbai Haji Taganuly, who specifically expressed his high appreciation for Indonesia's participation and presence on this international agenda.
