JAKARTA - PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) is targeting good infrastructure and ecosystem development in the early stages of organizing the carbon market. This was after previously officially appointed by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as the organizer.

"Good carbon exchange infrastructure and ecosystems, which are quite supply and demand, as well as the development of a better trading and surveillance system," said IDX Development Director Jeffrey Hendrik quoting Antara, Wednesday, September 20.

Jeffrey said that currently the IDX is finalizing regulations related to carbon exchanges, which will trade carbon units recorded in the National Climate Change Control Registribution System (SRN PPI) under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

"Besides the IDX, PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI) will play a role in resolving funds," said Jeffrey.

He hopes that on the launch day, which is planned for September 26, 2023, or next week, there will be a carbon unit to be traded.

"We hope so (there is trade)," said Jeffrey.

Jeffrey explained that IDX trades carbon units such as other securities such as stocks, bonds, Exchange Trade Fund (ETF), Structured Warrant, Real Estate Investment Fund (DIRE), or Infrastructure Investment Fund (DINFRA).

This is in accordance with what is stated in the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK) and Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) Number 14 of 2023 concerning Carbon Trading through the Carbon Exchange

As is known, previously the OJK had granted a carbon exchange implementation business license to the IDX through KEP-77/D.04/2023 on September 18, 2023.

"The granting of the business license is valid from the date of the stipulation of the decision of the Board of Commissioners," said Head of the OJK Capital Market Licensing Department Luthfy Zain Fuady.

Along with that, OJK Board of Commissioners Chairman Mahendra Siregar said that his party would officially launch a carbon exchange on September 26, 2023, or next week.
