Indonesia Signs Cooperation With Sweden To Build Waste Processing Into EBT

BALI - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) together with the Government of Sweden through Swedfund International AB signed a cooperation in implementing waste conversion technology into new and renewable energy (EBT) in Indonesia.

The signing was carried out by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono and the CEO of Swedfund International AB Maria H Waykansson at the Indonesian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, on Wednesday, August 23.

Minister Basuki said that the principles of environmental and sustainable infrastructure development are the commitment of the Ministry of PUPR, one of which is through the development of waste management.

"One of them is the use of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology which makes waste a renewable energy source," said Basuki in a written statement, Thursday, August 24.

Basuki said that the waste produced in Indonesia is an important potential source of energy, but is mostly managed through the use of end disposal sites (TPA).

"Therefore, this collaboration considers adequate expertise, capabilities, and technology from the Swedish Government for domestic solid waste processing and converts it into a renewable energy source," he said.

This collaboration involves Swiedfund International AB which provides grants to finance feasibility studies or other technical assistance and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through the Directorate General of Human Settlements.

Previously, the Ministry of PUPR had developed the use of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology to make waste a renewable energy source for coal alternatives in Steam Power Plants (PLTU) implemented at the Kongok Gardens Final Disposal Site (TPA), Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The application of this technology was built in the east of the Kongok Gardens TPA complex on an area of 7,000 square meters belonging to the Mataram City Government with a processing capacity of 120 tons of waste/day.

From this capacity, it is estimated that it can process around 40.19 tons/day to produce 15 tons of waste that has been processed for RDF which is used by the Jeranjang PLTU.
