BALI - The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) invites the Egyptian government to be the coordinator of the 10th African region in the World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, as well as encourage the active involvement of countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Arabia.

"We hope and are grateful for Egypt's willingness as President of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) to be the coordinator of the African region in the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in a written statement, Tuesday, August 22.

Basuki added, given the long relationship between Indonesia and Egypt, the Indonesian government also plans to invite the President of Egypt to attend Bali as well as attend the Bandung Spirit Water Summit which was inspired by the Asia Africa Conference in Indonesia 1955.

He said the Indonesian government would hold the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting (SCM) in Bali, on October 12-13, 2023.

"This meeting will discuss the latest water issues through three processes, namely politics, regional or regional, and thematic," said Basuki.

According to Basuki, Indonesia and Egypt have been working together for a long time, especially in the water and sanitation sectors, so to develop cooperation in other fields, such as climate change and energy is very possible.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources (SDA) and Irrigation Hani Sewilam said the Egyptian Government would fully support the implementation of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in 2024, by encouraging African countries, the Middle East Countries, and Arabia to actively participate in the forum.

"At the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27), the Egyptian Government is the host, one of which is related to Water and Climate Change Adaptation. Egypt is currently one of the global leaders in the water sector, so it is hoped that it can be continued in the 10th World Water Forum," he said.

Hani Sewilam also conveyed the results of the UN Climate Conference, Conference of The Parties (COP27), together with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) called Action for Water Adaptation and Resilience (AWARE).

"One of the concrete programs from THE BEGINNING of this initiative is the capacity building in adapting climate change, water, sanitation and irrigation," said Minister Hani Sewilam.
