JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) is following up on the QR code-based payment cooperation between Bank Indonesia and the Monetary Authority of Singapore which was initiated in 2022. August 17, BI started a trial interconnect payment between Indonesia and Singapore using a QR Code. This trial is a test
"After successfully implementing the industry with Thailand and Malaysia, starting today we are testing QRIS between Indonesia and Singapore," said BI Governor Perry Warjiyo in the launch of the latest QRIS feature, in the form of QRIS Tuntas or Cash Pull, Transfer, and Deposit at the Head Office of BI, Jakarta, Thursday, August 17.
Payment connectivity with a QR Code between Indonesia and Singapore is considered to be able to facilitate trade between countries more efficiently, especially for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as encourage the growth of the tourism sector.
This trial will involve the Indonesian Payment Systems Association (ASPI), Network for Electronic Transfers – Singapore (NETS), and representatives of payment system service providers.
“ In Thailand, you can use QRIS (as Thais go to Indonesia), Malaysians travel to Indonesia and can also use QRIS (as Indonesians go to Malaysia), it has been (implemented). Well, for Singapore, we have discussed and we have prepared. We agreed that starting today we will test with Singapore,” Perry said as quoted by ANTARA.
On another occasion, Head of the BI Payment System Policy Department Dicky Kartikoyono hopes that the trial of using the QR Code between Indonesia and Singapore can increase the mobility of Singaporeans to Batam and Bintan in the Riau Islands and Bali Island. This trial is also expected to make it easier for Indonesian citizens who go to Singapore to carry out financial transactions.
"The “ (transaction) digital (via QR Code transaction) excess data can be fast," said Dicky.
