Support Endemic Animal Conservation, Garuda Fly Komodo From Jakarta To Labuan Bajo

JAKARTA PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) continues to strengthen its commitment and contribution in efforts to conserve typical Indonesian animals. This time, Garuda was involved in flying 6 Komodo dragons from Jakarta to Labuan Bajo or translocation to its natural habitat.

This flight is part of the program for the translocation of protected animals initiated by the Ministry of Environment. The translocation flight adpaun is carried out on the GA 452 flight route on the Jakarta-Labuan Bajo route which departs at 11.10 local time on Tuesday, August 15.

These endemic animals are transported using the B737-800NG fleet to then continue their journey to the Wae Wuul Nature Reserve in Labuan Bajo.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, said that Garuda Indonesia ensured that the translocation process for the six Komodo dragons had complied with all targeted procedures and documents.

In particular, continued Irfan, related to the transportation of live animals in accordance with international regulations from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Including quarantine and customs regulations in Indonesia.

"The company also ensures that all officers on duty have a Live Animal Certificate to ensure the safety and security of the Animals until they arrive at their destination," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 16.

Irfan said the six Komodo dragons were previously animals that were taken care of in Safari Park, Cisarua, Bogor to be breedd to be then released back into their habitat in Wae Wuul Nature Reserve (CA), East Nusa Tenggara.

In line with the company's commitment to support environmental conservation, especially protected animals, Garuda Indonesia also previously carried out similar flights both domestically and internationally through the 'Live Animal' cargo repatriation program including Orangutan, Jambul Kuning Kakatua, small yellow Cendrawasih, Irian Crocodile, green python, pig-nosed labi, Turtle Rote, and Snow Leopard.
