MPR Annual Session: Bamsoet Reveals Geopolitical Dynamics For Unfortunate Economic Competition

JAKARTA - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo said that a country's defense and security cannot be separated from the economic dimension.

He explained, as a country rich in resources, Indonesia must build economic resilience and independence, supported by food sovereignty, energy, and industry.

"As part of the global community, Indonesia needs to further increase the role of foreign politics, which is free to be active, close to all national countries, without having to side with one of them," he said in a speech at the Plenary Session today, Wednesday, August 16.

According to Bamsoet, Bambang Soesatyo's nickname, that in the last 20 years, the dynamics of world geopoliticals has undergone significant changes.

"At the global level of competition, there has been a shift in the balance of strength in the geopolitical arena, and the expansion of economic and military influences in several countries," he said.

Bamsoet added, at the regional competition level, in various geopolitical areas, there has been an increase in competition between countries to influence and secure their own interests, reflecting complex political and economic competition.

On the other hand, alliances and geopolitical partnerships have also changed. Several countries have strengthened their relationship through established alliances," he added.

Meanwhile, he continued, with increasing tensions and shifting strategic interests, several countries are changing the orientation of their foreign policies and seeking new partnerships.

"In the midst of globalization and technological advances, geo-economic rivalry is becoming increasingly important. Competition for trade, access to natural resources, direct foreign investment, and economic dependence between countries are important factors in geopolitical dynamics," said Bamsoet.
