Jeruk Garut Will Be Preserved And Maximized As An Superior Commodity

JAKARTA - The Garut Regency Government, West Java, continues to strive to develop Garut orange commodities by preparing farmers, expanding land, and also maintaining the mother seeds in order to preserve superior products from Garut and provide financial benefits.

"We are still concentrating on preserving Garut oranges. We have the Horticulture Seed Center, there is the parent seed center, specifically for Garut orange trees," said Head of the Garut Regency Agriculture Service, Beni Yoga, as quoted by Antara in Garut, Sunday.

He said Garut Regency is known for its agricultural products, including orange commodities that have their own characteristics compared to other types of common oranges.

The Garut Regency Government seeks to maintain the authenticity of Garut oranges by refining the seeds in collaboration with the Seed Hall in Malang.

"We make it pure, and that is the main ingredient for the propagation of Garut orange seeds in Garut Regency in particular," he said.

He said that he had distributed 300 thousand seeds to farmers for cultivation and development on his agricultural land.

The Garut orange can only produce fruit or be harvested at the age of 3 to 4 years, so farmers need to be patient to reap the results.

In addition to Garut oranges, said Beni, his party also allows farmers to grow conjoined oranges whose harvests are faster than Garut oranges so that farmers who are currently waiting for Garut orange harvest can still earn income.
