JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) plans to manually check all International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers to see if any IMEIs are illegally infiltrated or not.

"Now, we check the IMEI one by one which we propose, there are already not in the IMEI that is currently circulating. Then, who proposes it? We will see it one by one manually, even a little old age (in the past)," said Ministry of Industry Spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif when met by reporters at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, Monday, July 31.

"We checked the IMEI one by one which we proposed, whether IMEI infiltrated it or not," he added.

Although it will be quite difficult because it takes longer, checking one by one is a path that must be taken to identify illegal IMEI registrations.

Febri also reminded the public to always buy cellphones in official places and not buy cellphones on the black market, even though the price is much cheaper.

He also asked the public to always be vigilant and not be tempted by certain cellphones below the market price. "So, you have to be careful buying manufacturing products. Manufacturing, right, there are standards and prices. For the public, be careful to buy cellphones, check the IMEI and if you can buy it on official channels," said Febri.

"For example, if there is a cellphone that is really cheap, that's it, for a class such as a certain cellphone, yes, it's strange," he said.

For your information, IMEI registration to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) management system can be carried out by four ministries/agencies, namely the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance, and cellular operators.

The CEIR machine itself is a tool used to store data and monitor cellphones throughout Indonesia using IMEI.
