Indonesia Declares Compliance With International Codes For Tourist Protection

JAKARTA - Indonesia through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) has officially complied with international codes for the protection of tourists prepared by UNWTO (United Nations of World Tourism Organization/World Tourism Organization) as an effort to provide safety guarantees for international tourists who want to travel to various countries in the world, including Indonesia.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said this code is a joint commitment of UNWTO members to ensure the safety and security of tourists visiting a destination and encouraging tourists to comply with and respect the customs that apply in tourist destinations visited.

"This rule is reciprocal. So, apart from getting protection, they must also comply with the agreement to respect local customs, culture, and wisdom," Sandiaga said in a written statement, quoted on Saturday, June 17.

Sandiaga said the international code for the Protection of Tourists was adopted by the UNWTO General Assembly at his 24th session in Madrid, Spain, in 2021 through a resolution of 732 (XXIV).

Thus, this statement of Indonesian compliance is considered appropriate for Indonesian tourism based on local wisdom.

"This compliance statement is our joint commitment to provide security and safety for tourists and ensure the integrity of our cultural customs and traditions," he said.

On this occasion, Sandiaga also invited UNWTO to participate in a number of collaborations in an effort to improve the quality of the tourism sector in Indonesia.
