Denying Egg Prices Rising, Deputy Minister Of Trade Jerry Sambuaga: Relatively Stable

Deputy Minister of Trade (Wamendag) Jerry Sambuaga denied reports of an increase in egg prices.

He said, the price of eggs did vary, but it was still in a reasonable condition.

"The fluctuation happened really, but from what I visited in the markets the price was relatively stable," he told reporters, Tuesday, May 23.

Jerry admitted that he had visited markets in Subang, Solo, and Lampung.

He did not deny that the price of eggs jumped to Rp40,000 per kilogram (kg), but there are still areas that have actually decreased. Even the price of eggs costs Rp. 25,000 per kg.

"It's not always IDR 40,000, some are IDR 38,000, some are IDR 35,000, there's IDR 25,000. So this is a varied price. Well of course we hope there is a balance," he said.

Nevertheless, Jerry said there are things that are more important than the price spike, namely supply availability. He warned not to let the supply of eggs and other commodities run low.

"The most important thing is that the availability should not be thin. Until now the stock is safe. Not only eggs but also other commodities," he said.

Currently, said Jerry, stock of eggs throughout Indonesia is safe.

He ensured that he would continue to monitor the development of egg prices either directly or through reports from local governments (Pemda).

"We always report going directly to the field. We are not only waiting for reports but also going directly to markets and even carrying out market operations if intervention is needed from us," he said.
