Bakrie & Brothers Subsidiary Explores The Potential For Wind Energy Development And Gas To Support Electric Vehicle Ecosystems

JAKARTA - PT VKTR Mobility Technology, a subsidiary of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) is exploring the potential for developing wind and gas energy as an effort to transition energy while at the same time supporting the development of its electric vehicle ecosystem.

President Director of PT VKTR Mobility Technology Gilarsi Wahju Setijono said that currently his party has succeeded in selling 52 units of electric buses for TransJakarta.

"Now the issue is whether EVs are the same as moving carbon emissions to remote areas because their electricity source is still coal? So what we are trying to do is see potentials that have not been too serious about thinking about so far. For example, wind, in the next five years we plan to build 5 GW powerplants whose basis is wind, "he said in the webinar "Strategy Reaches Investment Target 2023 by Encouraging Downstreaming", quoted from Antara, Wednesday, March 29.

Gilarsi explained that the wind plant will be combined with energy with low carbon emissions such as gas.

"We have tried to build another place where we have gas wells so that we can combine the wind and gas (combinate) and produce greener energy. Not completely green but greener," he added.

Gilarsi said the commitment to switch to new and renewable energy is in line with the commitment of the parent company, BNBR, to shift 80 percent of exhaust emissions to greener.

"In the group we have a commitment, when we were 80 years old we realized that exhaust gas reached 80 percent of hydrocarbons, when the group was 100 years old it had to shift 80 percent of its green (green)," he said.

VKTR itself has started electrifying transportation since 2018 by introducing electric buses at the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meeting in Bali. The electric bus is an automotive product developed by BNBR in collaboration with BYD Auto.
