Cash Needs in Papua During Ramadan 1444 Hijri Rise 3.1 Percent

PAPUA - The Papua Province Representative Office (KPw) of Bank Indonesia (BI) said the need for cash during the months of Ramadan and Idul Fitri 1444 Hijriah increased by 3.1 percent, namely IDR 1.39 trillion compared to the previous year of IDR 1.34 trillion.

Head of the BI Papua Representative Office, Juli Budi Winantya, in Jayapura, Tuesday, said that of the IDR 1.39 trillion, it consisted of IDR 1.31 trillion in large denominations (UPB) and IDR 80 billion in small denominations (UPK).

"This increase is due to several factors, one of which is now that people's mobility has started to improve after the COVID-19 pandemic", he also said.

According to Juli, apart from that, on the other hand, electronification has begun to flourish, meaning that transactions are needed, but not all of them are filled with cash.

"The required amount of rupiah currency will be distributed through banks in the Jayapura area and seven cash deposits deposited by Bank Indonesia in Biak, Merauke, Nabire, Sorong, Serui, Timika and Wamena", he said.

His party together with banks throughout the Land of Papua provide 107 money exchange service points covering the provinces of Papua, Central Papua, Papua Mountains and South Papua.

"The number of exchange service points has increased to 24 points, so that later it will make it easier for people to make exchanges in their respective areas", he said.

He added that this amount is outside of the 107 exchange service points at the bank, so that his party also provides money exchange service options through retail mobile cash in the Jayapura City area such as in crowded centers, then mobile cash to institutions/agencies around Jayapura City.

"Especially for exchange services at mobile cash registers, the public is expected to place an order in advance through the Rupiah Exchange and Withdrawal (PINTAR) application", he also said.
