JAKARTA - OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, announced its intention to gather broad input on decisions affecting artificial intelligence (AI). This was conveyed by OpenAI President Greg Brockman, on Monday, May 22.

At the AI Forward event in San Francisco hosted by Goldman Sachs Group Inc and SV Angel, Brockman discussed the outline of how this very popular chatbot maker seeks to regulate AI regulations globally.

One of the announcements he previewed was a model similar to Wikipedia, which required people with diverse views to unite opinions and agree on the entries of the equator.

"We don't just sit in Silicon Valley thinking that we can write these rules for everyone," Brockman said, regarding AI policy. "We started thinking about democratic decision making."

One of the other ideas discussed by Brockman, which OpenAI explained in a blog post last Monday, is the need for government cooperation around the world to ensure AI development is carried out safely.

Since its launch on November 30, ChatGPT, a generative AI technology capable of producing authoritative writing from prompt texts, has captivated the public, making it the fastest growing app of all time. However, AI's capabilities have also become the focus of concerns regarding its ability to create deepfake images and misinformation dissemination.

In seeking the future direction for AI, Brockman took the example from Wikipedia and other places. He and OpenAI mentioned that agencies such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) can impose restrictions on the use of AI, verify compliance with safety standards, and track the use of computing power.

Another suggestion is the global agreement to limit the annual growth of new AI capabilities, or joint global projects involving participation from major governments.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has submitted various ideas to policymakers in the United States last week regarding limiting arrangements for artificial intelligence, among others, by requiring permission to develop the most sophisticated AI model and establish an associated management regime. He is also visiting policymakers in Europe this week.
