Prosecutors Stop Investigation Of Alleged Rape By Kylian Mbappe

JAKARTA - Swedish prosecutors have stopped investigating a rape case launched regarding the visit of soccer star Kylian Mbappe to Stockholm in October 2024.

ESPN previously reported that Mbappe's representative said the rape allegations were completely false and slanderous rumors.

In a statement, lead investigator Marina Chirakova said there was insufficient evidence to continue the investigation, which centers on an incident at a hotel in the Swedish capital.

"During the investigation, there were people who were named rape suspects for reasonable reasons and two cases of sexual assault."

"However, my assessment is that evidence is not enough to proceed. Therefore, the investigation is closed."

"The person named has not been notified of the alleged crime," Chirakova said on Thursday, December 12, 2024, local time.

Prosecutors never publicly named the suspect in the investigation. However, many Swedish media reported that it was Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe, who visited Stockholm in October 2024 during the 2024/2025 La Liga break.

At that time, Mbappe's legal team denied the report as fake news.

Mbappe's lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, and the player's representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the same day the Swedish prosecutor issued a statement.
