JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding said that one-stop service is one of the solutions launched by his ministry in suppressing the number of Indonesian migrant workers who work non-procedurally.

"Let's make regulations in the future, that people who want to leave are in any name, as long as they get wages and work abroad, must be at one door," said Minister Karding when delivering a speech at a public dialogue regarding PMI protection at the Ministry of P2MI Office in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, December 17.

His ministry noted that as many as 80 percent of migrant workers who were victims of exploitation were workers who departed non-procedurally.

This caused the government to not be able to find out the PMI's location and work area, as well as the duration of work and job protection.

Therefore, through the one-stop service policy, it is hoped that Indonesian citizens who want to work abroad can be registered, including for interns and seasonal workers.

"So whoever wants to work abroad, it must be registered to enter our data. If he enters, then we can monitor what job he does, where he works, who sends, then what job position he does, is protected or not there," he said.

Karding further said that strengthening the vocational system and increasing human resources are another way to increase protection for Indonesian citizens.

He also mentioned that from the needs of workers reaching 1 million, Indonesia was only able to meet 267 thousand.

This is due to the ecosystem, ranging from systematically built and planned recruitment, training, delivery, and placement.

"If it is well projected, we prepare the training institutions well, we prepare the services well, we change the recruitment mode well, we prepare our representatives abroad, so that all the burden is not at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he said.

Meanwhile, from 2007 to November 2024, the Ministry of P2MI noted that 5,181,482 PMIs were placed in various countries.

Most Indonesian migrant workers are placed in Malaysia with 1,409,961 people, then Taiwan with 1,048,406 people, Hong Kong 1,032,669 people, Saudi Arabia 462,740 people, and the rest in several other countries such as Singapore, South Korea, to Oman.
