Gus Dur Proposed By PKB To Become A National Hero

JAKARTA - The 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur was proposed by the National Awakening Party (PKB) to become a national hero.

In the National Gathering event in Jakarta, Friday (13/12), PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin assessed that Gus Dur had fought for diversity, diversity, brotherhood, humanity, and the unity of Indonesia and now the Indonesian people are enjoying these various circumstances which are the result of Gus Dur's efforts and sacrifices for the Indonesian nation.

"So it's time to be in this place too, I dare and we all initiate to propose Gus Dur to become a national hero. Hopefully it will soon be realized for our nation," said Cak Imin, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, December 14.

Although Gus Dur does not need the title of national hero, he said, the Indonesian people need Gus Dur to continue to be an inspiration and enthusiasm to continue and bring Gus Dur's dreams, namely peace and justice for all Indonesian people.

He and the PKB Central Executive Board (DPP) admitted that they wanted to continue Gus Dur's spirit and continue to fight for diversity, diversity, brotherhood, humanity, and Indonesian unity, in order to be realized in all aspects of the life of the nation and state.

Cak Imin said PKB together with the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) had reaffirmed that Gus Dur had never made a constitutional mistake in leading the government.

"In fact, Gus Dur has succeeded in bringing our nation into a sovereign nation in accordance with our constitution," he said.

On the same occasion, Deputy Chairperson of PKB Rusdi Kirana revealed that the PKB MPR faction had taken the initiative to restore Gus Dur's good name through the revocation of Decree or MPR Tap Number II/MPR/2001 concerning President Abdurrahman Wahid's Accountability.

By restoring Gus Dur's good name, he continued, PKB will continue to fight for Gus Dur to be confirmed as a national hero.

"Even though it is actually in our hearts, including me, Gus Dur is already a national hero," said Rusdi, who is also the Deputy Chair of the MPR.

The National Gathering, which was held with the theme Remembering the National Teacher Gus Dur, featured various speakers, namely the Catholic Imam Romo Magnis; General Chairperson of the FPP of the Indonesian Confucian High Council of Religion (Matakin) Xs. Budi Tanuwibowo; General Chairperson of Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI) Wisnu Bawa Tenaya; former Commander of the Forces Dare to Die in the Gus Dur era, Gus Nuril, and Head of Wisma Sangha Theravada Indonesia YM Bhikku Dhammasubho Mahathera.

Then, the Head of the Presidential Palace Protocol Bureau during Gus Dur's time as President for the 1999-2001 period Wahyu Muryadi, Deputy Daily Chairperson of the PKB DPP Nadya Alfi Roiala, General Chairman of the JAI National Amir Min Mirajudin Sahid.

Also present were Chairman of the PKB faction of the DPR Jazilul Fawaid, Chairman of the MPR PKB Faction Neng Eem Marhamah, and Chairman of the DPP of the Inter-Iman Brotherhood Agency (Dare) Lorens Manuputty.

During the event, DPP Dare to be with community leaders and interfaith leaders to sign the National Hero Recommendation for National Teacher Gus Dur which contained a proposal to the Indonesian government through the MPR to appoint Gus Dur as a national hero.
