Mahfud MD: The 2024 General Election Belongs To All Indonesian People

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD emphasized that the 2024 General Election does not only belong to election organizers or the government, but belongs to all Indonesian people.

"The 2024 election belongs to all Indonesian people," Mahfud said at the "Sendung Peaceful Election" event at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 18.

According to him, the five-year democratic party belongs to all Indonesian people. For this reason, all parties must work together to maintain the sustainability of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

The 2024 election, continued Mahfud, will determine the future of Indonesian democracy which has more integrity, quality and dignity. Not only that, to realize peaceful elections, every individual must be sensitive and alert in overcoming indications of vulnerability in holding elections.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs said the narrative of peaceful elections is different from political wars, but rather political consolidation. If the narrative of this peaceful election is rarely raised in the midst of society, Mahfud is worried about instability in political conditions.

"Of course these narratives can be put forward by our respective positions," he added.

Mahfud MD said that the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque, Kiai Haji Nasaruddin Umar, could speak from an evil point of view. Then, the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto and Banten Police Chief Inspector General Rudy Heriyanto spoke from a security point of view.

Then the General Election Commission (KPU) can discuss the correct election procedures, while the Indonesian Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) speaks from its supervisory point of view.

"The others are the same, expressing narratives in their respective positions, but the goal is peace, peace, peace, and Indonesia as the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia which we have because of the grace of Allah the Almighty is well maintained," he said.
