The East Flores Police's Trafficking Crime Task Force (TPPO) said 60 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) from East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara who were victims of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) during the 2019-2023 period had been sent home from Malaysia with a death condition.

"The workers from East Flores Regency who were repatriated in a state of death during the 2019-2023 period were victims of TIP," said Head of the Public Relations Section of the East Flores Police, Iptu Anwar Sanusi, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 18.

He said that based on data compiled by the TIP Task Force in East Flores Regency after coordinating with the Office of the East Nusa Tenggara Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service (BP3MI), the Maumere Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Post (P4MI) and the East Flores Regency Manpower Office, 60 workers from East Flores Regency who were sent home with the death condition were TIP victims.

The PMIs were repatriated from abroad to their hometowns in East Flores with the condition of death.

He explained that the victims of TIP who were repatriated died in the 2019-2020 period were 12 people each.

Meanwhile, in 2021 the East Flores Police TIP Task Force recorded that 13 workers from East Flores Regency who worked abroad as victims of TIP were repatriated in a state of death.

Meanwhile, in 2022, there were 13 migrant workers from East Flores Regency who were repatriated with death conditions and in 2023 there were 10 people.

"Based on this data, it shows that East Flores Regency is one of the areas that is quite affected by the TIP case against PMI," said Iptu Anwar Sanusi.

Although the number of victims in East Flores Regency ranks second after Malacca Regency in NTT Province, the number of victims in the span of four years remains a serious concern for the East Flores Police in making efforts to prevent the occurrence of TIP cases.

Cases of criminal acts of trafficking in persons pose a serious threat to the safety and lives of migrant workers from East Flores Regency.

Efforts have been made by the East Flores Police in preventing the TIP case are to appeal to Bhabinkamtibmas, coordinating with relevant agencies, collaborating with observers of Indonesian Migrant Workers and accelerating the process of investigating the ongoing TIP case, including tightening supervision at the departure port.

"We hope that with these steps, it is hoped that this will prevent similar cases from occurring," said Iptu Anwar.
