JAKARTA - The Saudi Arabian Public Health Authority (Weqaya) has prepared mobile units to monitor and diagnose infectious diseases (Mobile Infectious Diseases Unit/MIDU) during the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage.

"There are two units prepared near Arafah to prevent and monitor high-risk infectious diseases among pilgrims," said Head of Operations for the Mobile Unit of Saudi Arabia for Infectious Diseases Dr. Maher Al Ahmadi in Makkah, Saudi Arabia as quoted by Antara, Sunday.

MIDU also contributes to diagnosing high-risk infectious diseases.

Al Ahmadi said the unit was in the third level of biological security or Life Level 3 (BSL-3) and at level two biological security or Life Level 2 (BSL-2).

The unit, he continued, provides mobile laboratory systems with all equipment, technology, and systems that meet international standards and requirements for biological security and safety.

He said the unit was prepared to maintain the safety of pilgrims in performing worship.

Until now, according to him, no cases of infectious diseases have been found in the Hajj pilgrims.

"Alhamdulillah, there are no cases of infectious diseases in the Hajj pilgrims and we here have about 30 employees on duty during the monitoring of infectious diseases," he said.
