JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will normalize the Kali Baru river by building a higher permanent embankment. This is to deal with water that overflows, causing inundation. One area that is often inundated due to the overflow of the New River is the Hek intersection on Jalan Raya Bogor, Kramatjati, East Jakarta. "From the Water Resources Service, the information this year is budgeted for the manufacture of sheet piles. It is normalized, it is high so that it does not spill," said Anwar at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, June 19. In addition, Anwar said that the DKI Provincial Government would dispose of new channels that connect water flows to other channels in the area. This is done to reduce the volume of water flowing at one point. "We will cross from Jalan DI Panjaitan so that the water is broken so that it does not overflow or spill," said Anwar. However, Anwar admitted that he did not know when the permanent embankment and water channel crossing would be carried out. This, he said, is the task of the Water Resources Service. "We'll see later what kind of development will know technically, I'm just waiting for the Natural Resources Service. When do you want to socialize, then what kind of impact, or relocation or what," explained Anwar. Furthermore, Anwar revealed that the normalization of the New River embankment requires land acquisition in the vicinity. This is because the river segment will be made wider as it should be. On that basis, Anwar admitted that there would be relocation of residential areas. According to him, relocation does need to be done in order to overcome the impact of flooding. "If I want to relocate everything. It's all empty. From the government, the socialization has started. We said, 'if you want (the flood problem) to be resolved, don't be there. Especially those who often landslide. Just empty some that often collapse'," explained Anwar.
