JAKARTA - Russia's private military company Wagner on Saturday (6/5) has asked for approval to move its troop combat positions in the city of Bakhmut, Ukraine, to Chechen troops.

In a statement on the Telegram app, Yevgeny Prigozhin said his troops were unable to continue the war due to a lack of weapons and asked Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu to issue orders relevant to the condition.

Prigozhin thanked Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov for his approval to replace Wagner's unit in Bakhmut with Akhmat's special forces, saying about 2 square kilometers of the city's territory were under the rule of Ukrainian forces.

Meanwhile Kadyrov said in a separate statement via Telegram that several units had headed towards the city.

Quoted from Antara, Sunday, Prigozhin complained about the lack of weapons and reluctance of Russian military commanders to supply his units with the necessary combat equipment for months.

Russian troops have been working for months to seize Bakhmut, a transportation and logistics hub in Ukraine's Donetsk region, which is part of the mostly Russian-speaking Donbas industrial area.
