JAKARTA - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Khartoum will carry out the second phase of the evacuation of 298 Indonesian citizens (WNI) due to the conflict in Sudan.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi explained that initially the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum planned to evacuate all Indonesian citizens by utilizing the ceasefire.
"However, due to the limited fuel for buses that will transport Indonesian citizens and other evacuations, evacuations cannot be carried out in one stage," Retno said in a press statement, Monday, April 24.
Most of the Indonesian citizens who will be evacuated are students, students and five company workers.
Previously, in the first phase, the evacuation, which was led directly by the Indonesian Dubers in Khartoum, succeeded in sending 538 Indonesian citizens to Port Sudan which would then be dispatched to Jeddah by sea.
"The evacuation in Sudan is also very difficult. Evacuation is carried out in the midst of the ongoing fighting. I continue to follow the evacuation hours. I also continue to report this evacuation process to the President," explained Retno.
On the same occasion, Retno also appealed to all Indonesian citizens who are still in Khartoum to immediately report themselves so that they can be included in the next stage of evacuation.
"I urge every Indonesian citizen who is still in Sudan and has not reported himself, please immediately report his whereabouts to the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum so that evacuations can also be carried out in the second stage," said Retno.
