JAKARTA - More than five decades Jajang C Noer has had a career in the world of film. The quality of acting that he has shown so far has even made him one of the most nominated actresses at the Indonesian Film Festival.
But who would have thought, Jajang actually got the most difficult role when he entered the age of 68 years. Two years ago, he accepted an offer to play Ni Ta in the film directed by Paul Fauzan Agusta, Onde Mande.
The character Ni Ta played by Jajang C Noer is a mother who works with her husband as a shop owner. Throughout his life, he lived in a village around Lake Maninjau, West Sumatra.
In the film Onde Mande, Jajang is required to have a dialogue using Minang. Therefore, he called Ni Ta's character the most difficult character in his career.
"I'm half dead from memorizing Minang. I think this is the most difficult role," said Jajang C Noer when met at Senayan Park, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, June 13.
Despite being born to parents who came from Tanah Minang, Jajang admitted that he was not fluent in speaking his mother's language. For him, it took about two months to memorize the entire Ni Ta dialogue.
"Many times, because it has to be repeated, like elementary school children memorizing it. Yes, maybe within one month or two months," said Jajang.
"I memorized it not only the words, but also the arrangement of sentences. Like the Javanese, the words are reversed, now this is the same thing," he continued.
However, Jajang said he was happy to be able to complete his role in the film Onde Mande. He also felt proud to be playing in a film that raised Minangkabau culture.
"This is a very rare film about Minangkabau. I am happy to be involved," concluded Jajang C Noer.
