JAKARTA - Pandji Pragiwaksono decided to settle in New York, United States to continue his career at stand-up comedy. Not alone, since last September 2022, he has also brought his wife and two children.

Not without reason Pandji chose New York and brought his family, he called one of the states in the United States the birthplace of the stand-up comedy industry.

"If why New York, the industry starts there. Why is the whole family, I can't stay away from my wife and children for a long time," said Pandji Pragiwaksono when met in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta last week.

"The wife has actually dreamed of living abroad for a long time. It's just that my two children don't really want it, they just have to negotiate for 2 years until they finally agree with this idea and finally go to New York," he continued.

Adapting in a new place which he called quite extreme, Pandji admitted the difficulties. However, he was amazed by the way his two children were able to adapt quite quickly from life in Jakarta to New York.

"I am amazed by the ability of my children to adapt. For example, from birth to move, school is accompanied by cars. When we move, we don't have transportation equipment, but they don't need long to adapt. My first child has taken the first bus to school, the girl has walked to school," he explained.

Pandji also admitted that he was more economical when he lived in New York. The reason is, the income that has been earned from working in Indonesia becomes less valuable when converted into the United States currency.

The 43-year-old comic also admitted that he had thought that he was too selfish to pursue his goals at the expense of his family. However, this thought turned into a desire to be successful due to the sacrifices made by his wife and children.

"Every day I question myself, why did I do this. But, at that time I was like I was in doubt, like what did I do here (New York), then my wife missed, 'you have to remember that I and your children have sacrificed for you. You can't be half-hearted. We have sacrificed and failed. We can't fail.' I think it's true too," said Pandji Pragiwaksono.
