JAKARTA - In electrifying remote villages, PT PLN (Persero) Main Units for the Papua and West Papua Region mostly use solar power, by utilizing local energy potential that is in accordance with geographical conditions.

General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Papua and West Papua Regional Main Unit Budiono, in Jayapura, Saturday, said that solar energy is one of PLN's efforts to electrify local communities throughout Papua.

"The majority of villages in Papua and West Papua are electrified using solar energy where we adjust them to the conditions of the region," he said, quoting Antara.

According to Budiono, the use of local energy is one way to accelerate the electricity of villages that are not yet electrified.

"Given the availability of electricity is one of the important points in the necessities of life to support access to education, economy and even long-term business and industrial growth in the regions," he said.

He explained that as used by the two villages in West Papua, Raja Ampat Regency, namely Audam Village and Mutus Village, both of which managed to use two solar power plants (PLTS).

So far, residents in the two villages are still difficult to get access to electricity. This is because the area is quite far away and difficult to reach. So the use of green plants that are considered practical is chosen as an answer to electrify," he said again.

He added that besides that, it is also one of PLN's efforts to support the acceleration of the new renewable energy mix and achieve the net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060.
