The Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to increase industrial competitiveness through the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) spread throughout Indonesia.

One of his efforts is to hold an Industrial Business Meeting entitled The Role of BBSPJI Services in Increasing National Industrial Competitiveness. This activity was held by the Center for Standardization and Services for Selulosa Industry (BBSPJI Selulosa), some time ago.

Head of BBSPJI Selulosa Ministry of Industry Hendra Yetty said that the Industrial Business Meeting activity is expected to be a means of communication with industry associations, industrial companies, and other technical service users in the development of services by BBSPJI Selulosa Kemenperin.

"In supporting industrial competitiveness, BBSPJI Selulosa provides industrial services such as testing, calibration, Indonesian National Standard certification (SNI), green industry certification, recycle content verification for export purposes, consulting, optimizing the use of technology, and technical assistance which is expected to be a solution to solving the cellulose industry problem," said Yetty in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday, June 30.

Yetty stated that the work unit (satker) she currently leads will continue to carry out its duties and functions by providing the best service to the industrial community and increasing the capacity of services and institutions with integrity, as well as being competent through standardized services, testing, calibration, training, product certification, ekolabel verification and certification, green industry certification, as well as developing service scopes in terms of expanding the scope of testing, calibration scope, and proof tests.

"Currently, the Greenhouse Gas Verification/Validation Institute (LVV GRK), the Halal Guarantee Institution (LPH) and the TKDN Verification Institute are being formed. In helping to solve industrial problems, BBSPJI Selulosa also provides consulting services, technical assistance and optimization of the use of industrial technology," said Yetty.

In an effort to carry out its functions, BBSPJI Selulosa has also made technological innovations to increase the competitiveness of the national industry, one of which has developed machines for the use of waste from the Palm Oil Blank Mark (TKKS) which is used as an alternative raw material for the paper industry.

"This strategic step is expected to overcome the problem of recycled paper raw materials that are still imported," added Yetty.

In 2022, the national pulp industry's installed capacity is 12.13 million tons per year, positioning Indonesia in the eighth position in the world. Meanwhile, the paper industry has an installed capacity of 18.26 million tons per year which places Indonesia in sixth place in the world.

At the end of the first quarter of 2023, the paper industry and paper goods showed good performance with an export value of 768.38 million US dollars, an increase of 11.17 percent compared to the same period the previous year. Meanwhile, the import value decreased by 4.01 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
