DKI Jakarta Fuel Consumption Drops 20 Percent, Pertamina Anticipates Spike In Other Areas

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina (Persero) estimates that there will be an increase in the amount of fuel consumption (BBM) during the Ramadan and Eid 2023 (RAFI) task force.

Although consumption nationally increased, Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati said that his party predicts that there will be a 20 percent decline in fuel consumption in DKI Jakarta.

"We already have a map of how people move. Judging from the existing data from the Command Center, Jakarta will be empty, instead demand is down to 20 percent," he said in a Hearing Meeting with Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives, quoted Wednesday, April 12.

Even though Jakarta has experienced a decline, continued Nicke, Pertamina is also anticipating a surge in fuel demand and consumption in South Sumatra, Central Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and even Papua.

"Similarly, in Papua, which previously fell in demand for the past year, until yesterday there was an increase of 2.5 percent," continued Nicke.

He also claimed, based on data compiled by Pertamina, his party was not only aware of the need for fuel per region but also per gas station throughout Indonesia.

"Regarding this data, we are trying our best so that there is no shortage. But if that happens, it turns out that there is an extraordinary demand, so we open the 135 call center which has been open 24 hours," said Nicke.

In the last 5 days, he continued, there were 14,876 calls that entered the Pertaina call center service.

"This can be accessed for 14 hours, so when there is a shortage there can be a shortage. What if there is a traffic jam? Call 135 for the kinta to be sent with pocket fuel and motorists will be allowed even on toll roads," said Nicke.

He further added that Pertamina also monitors 11 tourist areas, 9 main homecoming routes and 17 disaster-prone areas to anticipate a surge in fuel needs during the RAFI Task Force.
