TikTok CEO Will Meet Donald Trump To Discuss Platform Ban In The US
JAKARTA TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will reportedly meet with Elected President Donald Trump to discuss the ban on TikTok in the US. This meeting is planned to take place on Monday, December 23.
The news about this meeting was first reported by CNN. It is not yet known what will be discussed at the meeting, but Chew will definitely collect Trump's promise during the campaign period, which is to allow TikTok to continue operating.
Before the divestment rules forced TikTok to part with ByteDance was passed, Trump had made a similar ban. When he was president a few years ago, Trump felt that TikTok was a problem for national security.
However, in March this year, Trump changed his views during his campaign. Trump said he didn't want to ban TikTok because this ban would provide opportunities to Facebook, a platform he thought was more dangerous.
"Without TikTok, you can make Facebook bigger and I consider Facebook an enemy of the people," Trump said during a campaign a few months ago, citing The Verge.

After taking office, Trump will probably do something to overturn the divestment rules. Unfortunately, the rules for banning TikTok in the US will take effect before Trump takes office so that this platform will still disappear from Apple and Google's official app stores.
So far, Trump has only said that it will examine the ban on TikTok in advance. It has not been explained what action they will take to lift the ban on the operation of the TikTok app in the US.
TikTok isn't the only tech company looking to meet Trump after the former president was re-elected president. Many companies have met Trump, such as Apple, Amazon, Google, to Meta.
