Cak Imin: President Prabowo Targets Eliminating Extreme Poverty In 2 Years

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, revealed that President Prabowo Subianto gave special instructions to eradicate extreme poverty in Indonesia to 0% in the next two years.

Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released in July 2024, the extreme poverty rate in Indonesia is currently recorded at 0.8%.

"The target is clear, extreme poverty must run out in the next two years. President Prabowo ordered that in the next two years there will be no more extreme poverty," said Cak Imin to reporters, Monday, December 16.

To realize this target, Cak Imin emphasized that his party will immediately map out areas with a high extreme poverty rate so that it can be handled effectively within the next 1.5 to 2 years.

In his statement, Cak Imin also highlighted Central Java as one of the areas with a high poverty rate. Based on BPS data, poverty in the province reached 10.47%.

"Gradations from extreme to poor poverty in Central Java are still quite heavy, this needs special attention," he said.

Not only focusing on extreme poverty, but Cak Imin is also targeting a decline in the national poverty rate from 9.3% to 5% in the next five years.

"Until 2029, the target is that the national poverty rate will drop from 9.3% to only 5%. Although it is not easy to really complete, we are optimistic that this target can be achieved," explained Cak Imin.

However, Cak Imin acknowledged that poverty alleviation, both extreme and national, is not an easy task and cannot be done unilaterally. He emphasized the need for synergy between the executive government, legislature, and various stakeholders to accelerate the achievement of the target.

"This is indeed a tough job, but we will work as hard as possible. PKB will also support the acceleration of development through cooperation with the executive and legislature," he concluded.
