The Armistice Agreement Between Hamas And Israel Reportedly Getting Closer

JAKARTA - Saudi Arabian news agency Asharq News quoted a leader of the Palestinian militant group Hamas as saying the ceasefire agreement and release of hostages were imminent.

"We are closer than ever to reaching a ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement if (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu does not hinder the deal," the terror group representative said, adding the United States now should pressure Israeli Prime Minister, reported by The Times of Israel December 16.

The source added that militant groups Hamas have submitted proposals showing "extraordinary flexibility," establishing "the gradual cessation of war and gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops in accordance with agreed schedules, and guarantees from international mediators.

Mediators have intensified contacts and talks to bridge the gap and reach an agreement quickly, the Hamas leader said.

The militant group's ultimate goal was a permanent suspension of hostilities, a full withdrawal of the IDF (Israeli military), a return of displaced Gazans to their homes, as well as a fair agreement for the release of Palestinian hostages and prisoners, the official added.

Earlier, al-Akhbar Lebanon on Monday also reported Hamas' desire to reach an agreement, saying PM Netanyahu was also ready to sign the deal.

A source familiar with the negotiations told Asharq News Hamas had been told US President-elect Donald Trump wanted a ceasefire and an agreement to release the hostages as soon as possible, before the inauguration and possibly before the end of the year, that "Hamas and resistance are ready, but the problem lies in the occupation (Israel).
