Good News In Early 2025! Government Gives 50 Percent Electricity Discount For 2 Months

JAKARTA - The government has decided to provide a 50 percent discount on electricity rates specifically for electricity customers below 2.200 volt amphere (VA). This discount is valid from January 1, 2025 to February 1.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto explained that a 50 percent discount on electricity rates was given to ease the burden of household expenses.

"To reduce the burden of household expenses and electrical power installed below or up to 2,200 volt ampere, a discount fee of 50 percent is given for two months," he said at a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Office, Jakarta, Monday, December 16.

Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said he appreciated the 50 percent discount on electricity rates for 2,200 watts and below which targeted 81.4 million PLN customers.

The 81.4 million customers consisted of 24.6 million 450 watt customers, then 38 million 900 watt customers, 14.1 million customers 1,300 watts, and 4.6 million 2,200 watt subscribers.

"This means that out of a total of 84 million of our household customers, this targets 97 percent discount of our household customers for January and February," he explained.

Furthermore, Darmawan considered that this policy was a blessing because it reduced the burden and also increased people's purchasing power.

"Of course this is a blessing because this reduces the burden on our brothers and sisters and also increases people's purchasing power. And for that we PLN are ready to carry out the mandate of this government," he said.

For prepaid customers, Darmawan explained that the 50 percent discount on electricity rates automatically adjusts to credit purchases.

"Purchase of credit, which was previously Rp. 100,000, for example for certain kWh, will only be Rp. 50,000, to half of it. Then for those that are just paid, we automatically adjust the electricity bill for January, February," he said.
