About Robotaxi Tesla Cybercab, This Is What You Need To Know

JAKARTA - Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims Tesla's autonomous taxi cybercab without a steering wheel officially launched today is safer and cheaper.

Elon Musk showed off this vehicle at a major live event today Friday, October 11, or Thursday, United States time.

Elon Musk in his presentation which can be watched live via social media X also said that this vehicle is designed to only accommodate two passengers and is equipped with a wireless charging system and is expected to be 10-20 times safer than vehicles that are driven directly by humans and can reduce travel costs by up to 50 percent.

When viewed, Cybercab has a very different design from conventional cars, with doors open upwards like butterfly wings. This vehicle is designed to operate completely without human intervention, thanks to the advanced autopilot system.

Meanwhile, specifications that have not been officially disclosed include battery capacity that can determine the range and time of vehicle charging, then the computing hardware used to run the autopilot system will greatly affect vehicle performance.

Tesla plans to launch a full autonomous system in Texas and California next year, with Cybercab production starting in 2026.

Launching The Verge, October 11, Musk believes that robotaxi can save many lives and prevent injury. He also stressed that autonomous vehicles can save users time. But keep in mind, Tesla is still left behind behind companies like Waymo and Cruise in terms of testing autonomous vehicles on highways.

Despite the challenges and criticisms, Tesla remains optimistic about the future of robotaxi. They hope to overcome technical and regulatory constraints to bring this technology to the market at large.
