PLTU Sumsel 8 Confirmed COD This Year
The Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P. Hutajulu, ensured that the South Sumatra 8 Steam Power Plant (PLTU) in Tanjung Lalang, Muara Enim, South Sumatra will soon be Commercial Operation Date (COD) in accordance with the plan, namely September 7, 2023.
"Hopefully, COD (Commercial Operation Date) can immediately go according to plan on September 7, 2023 and enter the electricity system soon," said Jisman to the media, Saturday, August 5.
Jisman explained, for the electric evacuation of the Mining Mouth PLTU with a capacity of 2x660 Megawatts (MW), it will temporarily use the 275kV transmission from the PLTU to the Lahat and Gumawang systems. However, in the future, the transmission issue must be resolved immediately, given the differences in demand and supply electricity in Sumatra.
"In the future, we need to immediately resolve this regarding transmission, because the electricity center is in southern Sumatra, while the electricity demand is in northern Sumatra, so inevitably there must be transmission," he explained.
On the same occasion, Deputy President Director of MIND ID Dany Amrul Ichdan said that his party was accelerating so that the distribution of electricity for the South Sumatra PLTU 8 (2x660 MW) could run smoothly.
"We hope that smoothing will run, we have to accelerate and several breaktroughs. Transmission infrastructure must run, we need to evacuate the power generated later in September," said Dany.
Meanwhile, Director of New Renewable Mega Projects and Energy of PT PLN (Persero) Wiluyo Kusdwiharto said that PLN is ready to distribute electricity to the South Sumatra PLTU 8 (2x660 MW) to the Sumatra system.
"Through reliable electricity networks, we are ready to distribute electricity to PLTU South Sumatra 8. Insha Allah, this September can be completed (and channeled into the Muara Enim-Lahat and Muara Enim-Gumawang systems). Hopefully what we plan can be realized. We support what HBAP (Bukit Asam Power Resident) does," said Wiluyo.
Just so you know, the South Sumatra 8 PLTU (2x660 MW) is part of the 35,000 MW Power Plant Development Program. This plant is located in Tanjung Lalang Village, Tanjung Agung District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province.
The generator, also known as the Tanjung Lalang PLTU, was built by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP) which is a strategic collaboration between PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) and China Huadian Hongkong Company Ltd (CHDHK).
The plant uses environmentally friendly technology, namely super critical. In order to reduce exhaust emissions, the South Sumatra 8 PLTU also applies the desulfurization gas (FGD) flue technology which is used to minimize sulfur dioxide from emission from exhausting coal fossil fuel power plants.
