Russian Defense Minister Will Visit North Korea

JAKARTA - Russian delegation led by Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu will make an official visit to North Korea, the Russian Defense Ministry announced.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense said the visit would take place from Tuesday to Thursday (27/7).

Shoygu will participate in the celebration dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Korean War (1950-1953).

Pyongyang recognizes the moment of war as the Victory Day of the Indonesian Liberation War.

"This visit will help strengthen Russia-North Korea's military relations and will be an important moment in the development of cooperation between the two countries," the statement continued.

Meanwhile, North Korea announced delegations from China would also participate in the annual event.

According to the North Korean state news agency, KCNA, a delegation led by Li Hongzhong, Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee of the China National People's Congress, will visit North Korea to participate in the celebration.

KCNA also reported that participants from various regions had arrived in Pyongyang on Monday to participate in the celebration.
