Police Investigate Cause Of Death Of South Korean Citizen In Samarinda

BALIKPAPAN - Police are still gathering information to investigate the cause of the death of a foreign national from South Korea Oh Young Keun (57) in a hotel room in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

"We are currently carrying out the process of visum et repertum on the victim's body," said Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Police, Kombes Yusuf Sutejo, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 24.

He explained that personnel in the field had also secured a number of valuables belonging to the victim at the scene. CCTV footage around the scene of the case has also been secured to assist the investigation.

Meanwhile, from the results of the examination of witnesses, it was known that the victim was last seen on Tuesday (18/7). At that time at around 13.00 WITA, the victim had lunch at the restaurant with several witnesses.

Furthermore, on Thursday (20/7) at around 11.00 WITA, a witness came to the victim's room to ask for a signature.

"The hotel room door was knocked on, but there was no answer. Likewise when called at 18.53 WITA," said Kombes Yusuf.

Finally, with the knowledge of the hotel, the victim's room was opened with a spare key. Oh Young Keun was found dead on his back in room 907.

From the victim's health record, the police suspect that the victim died from illness. The victim suffered from lung disease, mouth disease, and HIV/AIDS positive.

The discovery of Oh Young Keun in a state of death adds to the list of South Korean foreigners who died in East Kalimantan in the last two years. Some time ago in Balikpapan, a RDMP project worker was reported to have died tragically on the road in front of his apartment in the Balikpapan Center. From the results of the investigation, the police confirmed that the South Korean worker fell from his room at an altitude to commit suicide.
