Boy Dragged By Flood In Ternate Found Dead
TERNATE - The Search and Rescue Office of the Ternate Basarnas, North Maluku (Malut) in an operation to search for a child named Rehan (9) who was swept away by the flood in Ubo-Ubo Village, Ternate City, finally found dead.
The head of the Ternate Basarnas, Fathur Rahman, said that the SAR operation on the third day through the joint SAR team carried out a briefing and search, which was divided into 2 Search and Rescue Units (SRU) by expanding the area and finally bearing fruit by finding the victim's body.
He explained that at around 11.10 WIT, when the team was conducting a search, they received information from the victim's family that at 10.55 WIT, the victim had been found by the speed boat on the Loleo - Ternate route in MD condition at coordinates 0.45'34.07 "N/127°25'20.85"E or 2.79 NM northeast of LKP.
SRU 1 Rubberboat carried out a search south of the river estuary as far as 1.5 NM. SRU 2 RIB SAR Ternate carried out a search around Maitara Island and Tidore as far as 1 NM.
The joint SAR team then headed to the victim's family's residence to confirm the truth of the information, at around 11.30 WIT, the Joint SAR Team arrived at the victim's residence and confirmed that the victim had been found and handed over to the family, so that with the victim's discovery, the SAR operation was completed and closed.
Previously, Rehan was reportedly swept away by the flood because he fell to the dead river in Ubo-Ubo Village, Ternate City, which was received by Basarnas from the Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ternate City on Friday (16/6) 2023) at around 16.15 WIT.
According to the chronology of the incident received by Basarnas Ternate. On June 16, 2023 at 16.05 WIT, the victim fell to death in Ubo-Ubo village and was dragged by the current during heavy rain, then an eye witness heard the victim's voice screaming for help at the mouth of the Bastiong river.
However, when the community carried out the search, the whereabouts of the victim were not visible, then the head of the Ternate City BPBD reported to the Ternate SAR Office to ask for SAR assistance.
