Ngada NTT Livestock Service Emergency Vaccination 4,213 Dogs Prevent Rabies
NGADA - The Ngada Regency Livestock Service, East Nusa Tenggara carried out an emergency vaccination for 4,213 dogs in eight sub-districts as one of the steps to prevent rabies transmission."Vaccination efforts that can be carried out are only emergency vaccination in villages with positive cases of rabies both in dogs and humans," said Head of the Ngada Regency Livestock Service, Felisitas Killa in Ngada NTT, Antara, Friday, June 9.Based on data from the Ngada Regency Livestock Service as of May 2023, 4,213 dogs in eight sub-districts have been vaccinated from the total dog population in the district as many as 55,801.The most vaccinations were carried out in Bajawa City, namely 1,000 dogs, while the lowest was North Bajawa in 233 dogs. In addition to the two sub-districts, vaccination efforts were also carried out in Soa, Inerie, Golewa, West Golewa, South Golewa, and Riung Districts.Felicity said officers carried out emergency vaccinations to respond to the increasing dog bites and the presence of 14 positive dog brain samples of rabies from 22 samples sent to the Denpasar Veterinary Center.He said the dog bite had been detected in Ngada Regency from February to early June 2023.To increase awareness of rabies transmission, the Ngada Regency Livestock Service appealed to the public that all dogs that are kept must get vaccinated.Furthermore, all cases of dog bites must be reported to the local Animal Health Center or the Ngada Regency Livestock Service.Felicity also emphasizes the prohibition on entering or removing dogs from one area to another to break the chain of transmission of the rabies virus."Immediately send a dead dog's head or killed to a Puskeswan or Livestock Service for rabies diagnosis," he said.
