Sean Gelael Hopes 100 Years 24H Of Le Mans Becomes His Team's Turning Point
JAKARTA - Indonesian racer Sean Gelael hopes that the 24H of Le Mans 2023 race can be a turning point for his team's revival. Moreover, this edition of the race is more special because it is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the legendary car's endurance race.
Historically, this car resistance competition began in 1923, which is even older than GP Monaco (1929) and F1 (1950). The 13.6 km de la Sharte circuit has always been the venue for Le Mans 24 Hours.
Sean Gelael himself made two historys for Indonesia while participating in Le Mans since 2021. The first is the podium and the second is pole position.
Sean became the first Indonesian racer to successfully climb the podium at Le Mans, while competing in LMP2 class in 2021 with the JOTA #28 team and finishing in P2.
And he is also the first Indonesian racer in which his team, WRT #31, was able to win pole position. It happened last year, still in the LMP2 class.
Unfortunately, this season, Sean and WRT #31 are having a difficult time. They struggle to reach the podium or even win.
For that, Sean hopes that the race will be the beginning of his team's success this season.
"We are currently not under any pressure. We just hope this year's Le Mans will be our turning point for the season," said Sean.
"And if it could win the race, and that would be our target, it would be great," added the Jagonya Ayam Team rider.
