Caterham Changes Its Iconic Car Powered By Electricity
JAKARTA - The development of electric vehicles is currently experiencing a significant increase. Many manufacturers have launched a number of their iconic models that used to be gasoline-fueled with battery or electric power. The latest is Caterham which has developed an electric version of its iconic car, Seven.
The British auto brand will introduce two units of the Caterham Seven prototype that use electricity at the Goodwood Festival of Speed event, which will take place in July.
Quoted from Autocar, May 24, the Caterham Seven is equipped with a 240 dk electric powertrain and a 249 Nm torque developed by the company Swindon Powertrain.
With this electric motor, the Ceterham Seven is claimed to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hour in about 4 seconds. However, the manufacturer did not disclose the peak speed.
Equipped with a 51 kWh battery, the Caterham Seven EV can be supported by fast charging of DC with more than 152 kW in 15 minutes until the battery is full.
Now, by converting to electricity, the Caterham Seven has a fairly heavy weight of 700 kg. This weighs 70 kg heavier than the ICE-powered Seven 485.
Because this car is only a prototype, the Caterham Seven EV is not for production. After Seven are featured at the Goodwood Festival, Caterham will introduce a concept of electricity by the end of 2023.
