Surabaya City Government: ASN In 2024 Can Work From Anywhere

SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government plans that in 2024, the state civil apparatus (ASN) will not only work in offices, but can also serve people from anywhere in accordance with the concept of Surabaya Smart City which prioritizes digitization.

The Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, stated that all services within the Surabaya City Government have been carried out digitally, so that services to the community can be carried out from anywhere using cellphones.

"I also want Surabaya not to work. I was once a Civil Servant (PNS), working every day in the room, if there are leaders who work, they are immediately busy, pretending to do something else. Now it's not the season, it's now (time) working from anywhere," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, April 29.

According to Cak Eri, ASN can work from anywhere, as long as the output and outcome of the work is fulfilled. He said, ASN can serve the community from the midst of the residents to be closer to them. However, these ASN must not forget their main job.

Cak Eri hopes that by 2024, ASN in Surabaya will no longer need to work in the office. He emphasized that the presence of ASN in the office is no longer an assessment, but the results of the work achieved by ASN are the main assessments. He also gave an example of a service that can be done by ASN when outside the office, for example if there are residents who have difficulty managing files, these residents can send their data via WhatsApp for assistance.

The concept of ASN working from anywhere is in line with the concept of Surabaya Smart City which has actually been planned since 2022. However, the plan is hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, Cak Eri must change the plan, and in 2022-2023, he can only implement the concept of ASN working with discipline. Meanwhile, the concept of ASN working with a heart or qalbu, will begin to be implemented after Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijriah.

Cak Eri believes that the implementation of the concept of working with discipline, heart, and digitization will be more prosperous for the people of Surabaya. In this case, digitization will facilitate public access to quality and efficient public services. He hopes that this concept can provide greater benefits for the people of Surabaya, as well as improve the performance and welfare of ASN.
