E-Corner, The Hyundai Mobis Feature That Makes Cars Run Like Crabs
JAKARTA - Recently, Hyundai Mobis introduced the latest innovation that can make the four car tires rotate up to 90 degrees under the name e-Corner.
Cheon Jae-seung, head of the Future Technology Convergence Institute, said the e-Corner system could meet all future driving needs.
"We are idealizing an e-Corner system to meet future mobility demands. We will secure various types of special mobility solutions that can be applied in autonomous driving and PBV to strengthen our vision of achieving the top level as a provider of mobility platforms," said Jae-sung in an official statement from Hyundai Mobis.
This technology is displayed by the company on a Hyundai Ioniq 5, which can be driven horizontally, making it easier for drivers to park their cars in parallel.
The innovation developed by the Hyundai Motor Group division can be realized thanks to the development of electric vehicle technology.
Most electric vehicles, mainly those owned by Hyundai, have propulsion motors attached to one or both of the axles.
The driving force can also be driven into wheels, the same as the leg starter on scooters. As Hyundai has applied this mode allows cars to perform unique maneuvers that cannot be applied to other vehicles.
As a result, the axis of the wheel can move without making the car body shift and can walk sideways like a crab, especially since this ability is useful for the location of a narrow parking lot.
