Regarding The Meranti Digadaikan Regent's Office, The KPK Does Not Want To Follow Up

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that M. Adil had investigated the news that the Meranti Regent's Office, which was pawned for Rp. 100 billion while still in office. They are ready to follow up if the information is correct.

"If in the investigation of corruption (such as, red) bribery, other corruption crimes are found, of course it will be investigated and will become a new case," Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur told reporters, Thursday, April 20.

Even so, Asep said investigators were still focused on investigating the alleged bribery that ensnared the inactive Meranti Regent M. Adil. They will thoroughly investigate this case and bring it to court.

"For the case in Meranti Regency which is being handled related to the case of hand arrest operation (OTT) of a criminal act of corruption (in the form of) bribery," he said.

Rumors circulated that the Meranti Regent's Office and Mess of the Meranti PUPR Service were pawned by the inactive Regent Meranti Muhammad Adil. The KPK investigated this matter.

Related to this, the Head of the KPK News Section, Ali Fikri, said that this is the first time this incident has happened if it is true. "If this is true, this is an interesting phenomenon and we know it's the first time this has happened," Ali told reporters.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, said that his party would explore further regarding the procurement of the Meranti Islands Regent's office in applying for credit to Bank Riau Kepri Syariah.

"We will investigate further, will review whether it is possible that an office that is an asset from the country was sent to the bank for credit," said Ghufron.

Previously, the KPK named Meranti Regent Muhammad Adil as the highest suspect in three different cases. This determination was made after being caught in a sting operation (OTT).

He was named a suspect for cutting the 2022-2023 budget, receiving fees from Umrah travel services, and allegedly giving bribes to condition financial examination in 2022 at the Meranti Islands Regency Government. Adil became a prisoner for the Head of the Meranti Islands BPKAD, Fitria Nengsih and the Deputy BPK representative of Riau M Fahmi Aressa.

The KPK revealed that the money Adil got from the practice of rasuah was used for operational costs for political safari activities. He plans to run as one of the Riau gubernatorial candidates in the 2024 Pilkada.
